Okay, folks. I’m pretty stunned.
I’m sitting in perhaps (okay, likely!) the world’s finest weekend workshop on the use of incredibly powerful and light-sensitive DSLR cameras that shoot cinema and broadcast quality images FOR FREE ($0.00 USD).
All from the comfort of my home office in Austin, Texas!
Led by Vincent Laforet and platformed by Chase Jarvis, Craig Swanson, and the stunningly talented media-making educators at CreativeLIVE.com, I’ve sat on the edge of my chair taking in each and every nugget of Vincent’s direct experience working as a still photographer gone cinematographer. You see, digital still cameras have converged with the technologies of the videographer and filmmaker of the future (okay, present) and have produced what is currently known as HDSLR Cinema (soon to be just Cinema, as 35mm film continues to expire gracefully, maybe quickly).

Content Meets Delivery
The content of the three-day course is challenging and extensive. My fellow classmates, literally thousands from around the globe, are simultaneously captivated and engaged as the class is streamed live around the world. And everyone is participating, working together to not only ask the right questions but to answer them.
Take note! Expertise of this quickly evolving subject area is collectively assembling all around all of the instructors, assistants and learners as we all learn together.
Is this how we will all learn in the future (I mean, the present)?
Equally significant, the manner in which the class is delivered is as technologically advanced and sound as is the content of the course I’m taking. Simple, easy-to-use, expert instructor-led, live students working on set in a hands-on way — all meticulously planned, bundled, and served through powerfully organized and compelling media technology.
I’m even working hands-on with my trusty Canon 7D when my online instructor asks me to…

I’m blown away by the simplicity and elegance of the CreativeLIVE plaform (two words, disruptive innovation, come to mind), and I’m impressed by the creative and knowledgeable staff who all work together to cull through thousands and thousands of questions, ideas, and discussions submitted by folks from around the world who happen to be speaking myriad languages, though mainly English.
At the Conclusion of Day 1
Vincent and Chase even sat down and had a few beers with us at the end of Day One (they worked hard to get to those beers!). They answered technical and big picture questions that are obviously on all our minds.
How we communicate, work, learn, and live is changing radically before our eyes… almost as we speak. Print is becoming more and more of a boutique experience as live, dynamic, streaming information feeds and blogs capture our imagination and mindshare. Vincent states (and I paraphrase) something to the following effect: “I stare at the newspaper and think yesterday…”. (Note, I won’t get this quote right until I download and study the packaged course of materials that I purchased for $79 early this week; buy now, btw: the course goes up in price to $129 next week).
After one beer (Chase uses his iPhone as a coaster, btw), the two gentlemen speak about why they do what they do. Why they are so compelled to educate.

Chase Jarvis
It turns out that the technologies of really any field are changing so quickly now that the pioneer practitioners of them have no choice but to wear three hats: those of creative artist, technician (hands-on, btw) AND educator.
What the two failed to discuss, however, was just how exciting and wonderfully innovative the CreativeLIVE platform is and can be for learners. It is intuitive, logical, easy to use, collaborative, and compelling.
If anyone in the world doubts the power of human beings and technologies coming together to allow for challenging and innovative teaching and learning, all one needs to do is tune in today at 12 Noon EST (or now stay tuned to additional reruns of the course; better yet, purchase the course and help support this creative platform and effort).
You will learn, and you will be pleasantly amazed.
And you will participate in creating knowledge…
Best of the best, CreativeLive!
Sincerely,
Jim Bruno
